LLEYTON Hewitt has been drawn against Aussie and fellow wildcard entrant James Duckworth in the first round of his 20th and final Australian Open.
The draw was relatively kind to Aussie hopes on Friday, with only two of 18 confirmed men’s and women’s entrants drawn against seeds in the first round.
However Hewitt faces a potentially-awkward showdown against Duckworth, a player he has helped mentor in recent years. The pair have never played each other on tour.
Top Australian men’s hope Bernard Tomic will face Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in the first round been is in the same quarter of the draw as second seed Andy Murray.
Nick Kyrgios faces Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta (Esp) first up and is on a collision course with sixth seed Tomas Berdych in the third round.
Top Australian women’s hope Samantha Stosur will face a qualifier in round but could then meet the player who knocked her out of the Sydney International, Monica Puig, in the second round.
