The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held yearly over the last fortnight of January at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. The competition precedes the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open and is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments conducted each year. The Australasian Championships was the tournament's original name. In 1927, it was renamed the Australian Championships. It was renamed the Australian Open in 1969.
