About

Chris Rock tour dates

Legendary comedian Chris Rock makes his highly anticipated return to Australia & New Zealand this August! His first tour in five years, the Ego Death World Tour will see him head to Auckland, Christchurch, Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast. Lauded by peers and critics alike, Chris Rock is one of our generation’s strongest comedic voices. With a career spanning more than three decades, he has enjoyed ongoing success in both film and television as a comedian, actor, writer, producer, and director. The reviews from his last visit to Australia in 2017 were unanimously glowing, the Sydney Morning Herald said “Rock, right now, is unequivocally the world’s best stand-up and there’s simply no substitute for capturing this genius in the flesh” – ★★★★★ Rock has won four Emmy Awards and three Grammy Awards, is a New York Times best-selling author, and his hit television series Everybody Hates Chris is still one of the highest-rated syndicated shows in the world.

Sometimes caustic, sometimes crass but consistently hilarious, Chris Rock rose to national prominence as a cast member of Saturday Night Live in the 1990s. Despite his background in sketch comedy and his appearance in major Hollywood films such as Top Five and the Madagascar series, Rock has always been most at home as a stand-up comedian, performing at such legendary venues as the Apollo Theater in Harlem and the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, where he hosted the 88th Academy Awards. Fans with Chris Rock tickets can expect a heavy dose of the same brutal, laugh-out-loud honesty he’s been known for since his days on SNL.

Chris Rock’s background

Raised by strict parents in the working class Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, Rock learned about race relations at a young age. He was bussed to schools in other, predominantly white neighborhoods, where his fellow students bullied him so mercilessly that he eventually decided to drop out of high school and get his GED.

Rock’s career as one of America’s most beloved comics began in 1984, when he began performing at New York City’s Catch a Rising Star chain of comedy clubs and eventually earned minor roles in films like Beverly Hills Cop II and I’m Gonna Git You Sucka. He rose to national prominence in the 1990s when he became, along with Adam Sandler, Chris Farley and David Spade, one of the “Bad Boys” of SNL responsible for the show’s popular resurgence. After leaving the SNL cast in 1993, Rock went on to achieve success as a film actor and stand-up comedian, releasing HBO specials such as Bigger & Blacker (1999) and Kill the Messenger (2008) to rave reviews.

Chris Rock’s comedic style

Throughout his career, Rock has used comedy as a means of exploring issues ranging from familial relationships to American race relations. He often draws on his early childhood when discussing such topics, offering candid insights that are often crude but undeniably astute. Rock’s colloquial performance style also involves quite a bit of swearing, so it may not be the best idea to get Chris Rock tickets for the kids.
