Billy Joel Tickets

Since releasing his first hit single, “Piano Man,” in 1973, balladeer extraordinaire Billy Joel has gone on to become one of the top three selling solo artists in the US, and fans with Billy Joel concert tickets are treated some of the biggest hits in the American songbook. Despite ever-expanding accolades, Joel has never been one to rest on his laurels. More than five decades into his professional music career, he continues to bring his music to fans everywhere. The versatile singer-songwriter, who has collaborated with everyone from Lady Gaga to Tony Bennett to Elton John, continues to perform at iconic venues, such as New York's historic Madison Square Garden and London's Wembley Stadium.

Piano Man

Billy Joel was born in the Bronx and raised in Levittown (now Hicksville) on Long Island, the Jewish son of a classical pianist who escaped the Nazi regime in Germany. At his mother’s insistence, he began piano lessons at an early age; it’s a good thing she forced the issue, because in high school he began playing at local piano bars to help her make ends meet. Joel’s dedication to music came at the expense of his formal education, as he wasn't allowed to graduate with his class after missing a crucial exam the day after a late-night piano gig.

In 1965, Joel joined a British cover band called The Echoes and spend the next two years recording and touring with them. In 1969, he won a recording contract with Family Records and released his debut solo album, Cold Spring Harbor. The album included hits like "She's Got a Way" and "Everybody Loves You Now.” Joel moved to LA shortly thereafter and concentrated on writing songs for other artists. Everything would change for him when Columbia Records produced his breakthrough album, Piano Man, in 1973.

Milestones

Piano Man thrust Joel into the American music mainstream. However, it was the 1977 ballad "Just the Way You Are” that won him Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Overall, he is a six-time Grammy Award winner, and has had Top 40 hits in the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, achieving 33 Top 40 hits in the U.S. Fans who purchase Billy Joel tickets can expect to hear songs that span the entirety of his five-decade-long career, including classics like “Only the Good Die Young” (1977), “Uptown Girl” (1983), and the politically charged anthem “We Didn’t Start the Fire” (1989).
