Gong is a highly influential progressive rock and psychedelic fusion group originally formed in Paris in 1967 by Australian musician Daevid Allen together with Gilli Smyth. Widely recognised for their experimental approach to music, Gong became known for combining elements of psychedelic rock, jazz fusion, space rock and avant-garde composition into an imaginative and unconventional sound. Their performances and recordings were characterised by extended improvisation, surreal storytelling and theatrical creativity, helping establish the group as one of the most distinctive acts to emerge from the progressive rock movement of the 1970s.

The band achieved international cult status through their acclaimed “Radio Gnome Invisible” trilogy, comprising the albums Flying Teapot, Angel's Egg and You. These releases introduced audiences to Gong’s eccentric mythology filled with cosmic themes, satirical humour and abstract narratives. Despite numerous line-up changes across the decades, Gong has continued to evolve while maintaining a loyal global following. Following the passing of Daevid Allen in 2015, the band carried on with Allen’s encouragement and remains respected for preserving the adventurous spirit and artistic originality that defined its legacy.
