Formed in 2002 by James Murphy of DFA Records, LCD Soundsystem, based in Brooklyn, New York, comprises Murphy (vocals, various instruments), Nancy Whang (synthesizer, keyboards, vocals), Pat Mahoney (drums), Tyler Pope (bass, guitar, synthesizer), Al Doyle (guitar, synthesizer, percussion), Matt Thornley (guitar, synthesizer, percussion), and Korey Richey (synthesizer, piano, percussion). They've been signed to DFA since the beginning and Columbia Records since 2016.

Their journey started with singles like "Losing My Edge" between 2002 and 2004, leading to their 2005 self-titled debut album, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album.
