Metallica Tickets

About

As one of the world’s best-loved bands, Metallica tickets are always hard to come by — even more so in Australia, where the band rarely tours. While the heavy metal act has not quite announced its next Australian tour, you can rest assured that it will be sooner rather than later.

Metallica has hinted their re-scheduled Australian & NZ leg of the Self-Destruct World Tour will be happening in 2024. As well as being their first trip to Australia since 2013, it will be Metallica's first headline stadium tour of the country.

When the tour announcement comes, the best place to find tickets is undoubtedly The Ticket Merchant. We partner with the best resellers to help you get your hands on the tickets you most want.

Who Is Metallica?

Metallica is a heavy metal band based in San Rafael, California, America. The band was formed in Los Angeles in 1981 after vocalist and guitarist, James Hetfield, responded to an advertisement placed in a local newspaper by drummer, Lars Ulrich. Hetfield, Ulrich, long-time lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo make up Metallica's current line-up, while former members include guitarist Dave Mustaine (who established Megadeth) and bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton, and Jason Newsted.

Metallica's first four albums gained the band a growing underground music fan following and critical acclaim. Their third album, ‘Master of Puppets’ (1986), was hailed as one of the most influential and heaviest thrash metal albums. With their namesake fifth album, ‘Metallica’ (1991), which appealed to a more general audience, the band widened its musical direction and enjoyed significant commercial success. It was also their first album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200, which they repeated with their following five studio albums.

Metallica has released 11 studio albums, four live albums, five extended plays, 39 music videos, and 37 singles during its career. The band has won nine Grammy Awards and has had six albums launch at number one on the Billboard 200 in a row. In the United States, the band's self-titled 1991 album has sold over 16 million copies, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Metallica is the third-best-selling music artist in the United States since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, with 58 million albums sold. Metallica worked with producer Bob Rock for a long time, producing four of the band's studio albums between 1990 and 2003 and serving as a temporary bassist during the recording of St. Anger. Metallica founded the independent record label Blackened Recordings in 2012 and now owns all of the band's albums and films.

The band’s most recent album — 72 Season — was released in 2023 and received generally positive reviews from critics. Metallica's rapid, heavy tempos, instrumental rifts, and legendary showmanship have won them over 125 million album sales worldwide, as well as unprecedented underground and mainstream success.

When Is Metallica Coming to Australia?

While many fans expected the band to return to Australia in 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic meant international touring was out of the question for acts wanting to visit Australia. In 2023, we’re still holding out for that announcement!

In a recent interview, drummer Lars Ulrich said the band have "gotta go to Australia" at some point during their current tour, which might see the foursome rolling into Australia in the near future. The last time Ulrich let it slip that the band would be touring down under was in 2010. In October and November of that same year, Metallica toured Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. It's no wonder fans can't stop talking about a possible Australian tour!

However, nothing has been confirmed yet. You can rest assured that the minute shows are announced, The Ticket Merchant will have access to tickets for the best seats in the house right across the country. In the meantime, sit tight and put on your favourite Metallica album!

When Was Metallica Last in Australia?

Metallica had planned to grace our shores in 2019 as part of their global WorldWired Tour but was forced to postpone it at the last minute as frontman James Hetfield entered rehab for addiction issues. Since then, fans have been waiting patiently for news of their return.

The band aren’t strangers to Australia, having visited the country a number of times over their long history. Previous tours include numerous dates in 2010 as part of their World Magnetic Tour and in 2013 for the Soundwave Festival.

It’s now been a decade since the band treated Australian fans to a live show, meaning it can’t be too long until new dates are announced.

How Much Are Metallica Tickets in Australia?

The exact cost of Metallica tickets will depend on a number of factors, from the venue to the type of seating you are after.

Fans can expect to pay top dollar for a premium seat, given Metallica’s global popularity. Keep in mind, too, that Metallica concerts are likely to be held at large stadiums, like the MCG. Whether you opt to mosh or enjoy the show from top-tier seats will also impact the overall cost.
