When Did My Chemical Romance Start?

My Chemical Romance (MCR) was formed in 2001 by lead vocalist, Gerard Way, and drummer, Matt Pelissier, in New Jersey, coming together shortly after the September 11 attacks. Inspired by the events of that day, Gerard began writing the song "Skylines and Turnstiles" to express his feelings, which would later become MCR's first song.

The band's lineup solidified with the inclusion of Ray Toro on lead guitar, Mikey Way (Gerard's younger brother) on bass, and later Frank Iero as the rhythm guitarist.

Yes, My Chemical Romance (MCR) did previously break up in March of 2013. The band released a statement on their official website explaining their decision to disband.
