Who Is Pearl Jam?

Pearl Jam is an iconic American rock band that was formed in Seattle in 1990. They are considered to be one of the most influential and successful bands to emerge from the grunge movement of the 1990s. The five members include Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready and the newest addition, Matt Cameron, who joined the band in 1998. 

To date, Pearl Jam has sold nearly 32 million records in the United States and an estimated 60 million worldwide. All Music referred to Pearl Jam as "the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s". In 2016, they were nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The band first emerged onto the Seattle grunge scene alongside bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden and has been an active force in rock ever since. Their sound includes elements of the grunge, alternative rock, hard rock and post-grunge genres. Pearl Jam is one of those rare bands with an original lineup that has remained largely intact for decades, impressing both new listeners and long-loving fanatics of the band. 

Pearl Jam has released 10 studio albums since their formation in the 1990s, most of which have become alternative rock classics.
