THE PROCLAIMERS TICKETS

About

Emerging 31 years ago with their debut album This Is The Story and Top 3 single ‘Letter From America’. Since then, their enduring appeal across generations has, over the years, seen them enjoy huge success across the globe. Becoming aware of the potential of playing as a duo, the Reids established the Proclaimers as an acoustic duo in 1983. The Proclaimers recorded a demo album with the assistance of Kevin Rowland of Dexys Midnight Runners. The demo fell into the hands of English indie pop band the Housemartins, who invited the Proclaimers to support them on their 1986 tour.

The follow-up album, Sunshine on Leith, was released in 1988 and featured a rock-driven sound as the Proclaimers worked with a band for the first time. Ranging in lyrical-themes from familial joy to Scottish nationalism, the record featured the singles "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)", which went to number one in Australia and New Zealand, and "I'm On My Way". The album was a particularly big hit in Australia in 1989, being that year's 12th biggest-seller, reaching No. 2, and attaining a 2× multi-platinum certification by the ARIA.

Craig Reid has acknowledged 1970s punk rock as a major influence, citing the Clash, the Jam, the Damned and the Sex Pistols as inspirational. Other notable influences included 1960s music, such as the Rolling Stones, the Kinks and the Beatles. Described by Timothy Monger of AllMusic as a "charismatic amalgam", the Proclaimers' style of music incorporates elements of country, folk, new wave, pop, punk rock, rock, rockabilly and soul.

Tour

The Proclaimers’ first Australian tour was in September 1994, in support of their then-new album Hit the Highway. It was a three-week tour that included shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. This tour was followed by a string of Australian dates in the summer of 1996, including shows at the Big Day Out festival in Sydney and Melbourne.

The Proclaimers returned to Australia in 2001 with a six-week tour that stretched from Brisbane to Perth. This tour saw them perform at the Sydney Opera House, as well as a series of smaller shows in venues across the country. They also performed at the Rainbow Serpent Festival in Victoria.

In 2006, the band returned for another tour of Australia, this time performing in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. They also played a series of shows in New Zealand.

The Proclaimers have also played a handful of shows in Australia since then, including a one-off show in Sydney in 2011, a performance at the 2013 Splendour in the Grass festival, and a show in Melbourne in 2015.

The Proclaimers are known for their infectious energy and powerful live performances, and their Australian fans have always been enthusiastic and supportive. The band have established a strong following in Australia, and will no doubt continue to bring it with them into their latest 2023 tour!
