CAMPBELL TOWN SPORTS STADIUM 2024

About

Campbelltown Sports Stadium, situated in Leumeah, New South Wales, Australia, is a versatile stadium owned by the Campbelltown City Council. Previously named Orana Park and Campbelltown Sports Ground, it presently serves as the home ground for the Western Suburbs Magpies, Wests Tigers, and Macarthur FC. With a nominal capacity of 17,500, the stadium saw its highest attendance of 20,527 during a game between the Wests Tigers and North Queensland Cowboys in the 2005 NRL season. It is conveniently located near Leumeah railway station and Wests Leagues Club.

Campbelltown Stadium, originally named 'Orana Park', emerged in the early 1960s as a basic sports field developed by the Campbelltown 'Shire' Council. It started hosting significant events like Grand Finals and representative fixtures for Group 6 Rugby League. The ground became the local athletics track for school events and welcomed top-tier Rugby League in the 1980s. Newtown Jets played their final game here in 1983 before being excluded from the 1984 season.

In subsequent years, the venue remained vacant until the struggling Western Suburbs Magpies relocated to Campbelltown in 1987. Led by CEO Rick Wayde, the Magpies aimed to secure their future in the expanding region and took over the adjacent bankrupt Leagues Club, subsequently rebranded as 'Wests Leagues Campbelltown'. This relocation marked the start of Campbelltown Stadium as a prominent 1st Grade Rugby League venue.
