Where did Jim Jefferies grow up?
Jim, born Geoff Nugent, was born in February 1977 in Sydney. Neither of his parents came from a comedy background, his mother was a teacher, while his father was a cabinet maker. He naturally found his way into comedy when he moved to Perth to attend the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts to study classical music and musical theatre.
How did Jim Jefferies get famous?
While Jim Jefferies did attend university, he actually dropped out just a few months before his graduation. Right after he left university, he started pursuing a career in stand-up comedy. He went back to his home city of Sydney, but before long was heading over to the UK to make a name for himself. It was in the UK that he came up with his stage name and started creating his on-stage persona. Jefferies’ original style was more focused on one-liners, eventually evolving into the story-telling and anecdotal style he has now as he eventually started booking longer sets.
He broke onto the scene in England, attending the Manchester Comedy Festival in 2007 and releasing his show “Contraband” in 2008 on DVD. From there, the only way was up.
