The St Kilda Saints are one of the oldest AFL teams in the league, having been formed in 1873. They were one of the original foundation teams of the VFL (Victorian Football League) when it began in 1897, later becoming the AFL.

St Kilda have won a single premiership to date, a famous one-point win in the 1966 VFL Grand Final. St Kilda most recently won the minor premiership in the 2009 AFL season and were grand finalists in 2009 and 2010.

• 1965 – The Saints made it to the Grand Final and gave it their all but were defeated by Essendon.

• 1966 – In a nail-biter, St Kilda won their first and only premiership by defeating Collingwood.

• 1971 – They returned to the Grand Finals once more, but Hawthorn had the edge and beat them out.

• 1997 – St Kilda made their way to the Grand Finals but unfortunately lost to Adelaide.

• 2009 – One of their most memorable and talked about matches versus Geelong. St Kilda went toe-to-toe with them, resulting in a narrow defeat.

• 2010 –  The last ever drawn Grand Final. A painful day for all Saints fans as an inspired final quarter saw the likes of Brendon Goddard and Lenny Hayes trying to will the team over the line. Unfortunatley this day ended in a draw with the replayed Grand Final taking place a week later. Collingwood eventually ran out as the Premiers of 2010.
