OPTUS STADIUM AFL TICKETS 2024

About

Optus Stadium (also known as Perth Stadium) is located in Burswood, Perth. This Western Australian stadium was built in late 2017. The official opening took place on the 21st of January the following year. With a capacity of 61,266 (including standing room), Optus Stadium is the third largest stadium in Australia. It only trails behind the MCG and Stadium Australia. The capacity can be increased to 65,000 seats when rectangular sports, such as rugby and soccer, are played on the field.

From March to September, Optus Stadium is used for AFL matches. The whole place was built with the intention of giving a new home ground to Perth’s two senior-most Australian Football League clubs - the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers. The West Australian Football Commission was guaranteed $10.3 million dollars a year by the state government and the AFL to allow the Eagles and the Dockers to play home matches at Optus Stadium.

Fremantle’s AFLW team hosted the stadium’s first-ever footy match when they duked it out with Collingwood on the 10th of February, 2018. 41,975 punters piled into the stadium, making it the highest ever stand-alone attendance in Australian domestic women’s sport. The first men’s premiership match came a month later, with the West Coast Eagles and the Sydney Swans having a clash on March 25th of that year.

Optus Stadium hosted the AFL Grand Final in 2021, when a COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria prevented the ultimate match from being played at its typical home, the MCG. The Melbourne Demons defeated the Western Bulldogs by a margin of 74 points, securing the Dees' first premiership since 1964. 61,118 people came along to watch the display, which made for the second-highest attendance at the stadium and the highest for a footy game (the highest attendance was for the Wallabies versus All Blacks Bledisloe Cup in 2019).
