HBF Park NRL 2026
HBF Park is the sponsored name for Perth Oval, or Perth Rectangular Stadium (depending on the sport being played there). As the name suggests, the ground is located in Perth, Western Australia’s capital city. It abuts the central business district of the city, and has a capacity of 20,500 people. When it’s being used as a concert venue, this capacity expands to 25,000 people, and was further expanded to 32,000 for a 2015 Ed Sheeran concert. The ground was built in 1910, six years after the land it stands on was named a public reserve.
HBF Park plays hosts to the Western Force, a major professional rugby union side. They play in the Super Rugby AU and Super Rugby competitions. In terms of rugby league HBF Park is used by the semi-professional squad, the West Coast Pirates. They are part of the S.G. Ball Cup.
Since 2009, Perth Oval has hosted at least one rugby league game per year. This annual fixture routinely features the Sydney Rabbitohs, and in 2016 and 2017 the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles joined the fray as well. When the New Zealand Warriors come to play, that tends to draw the highest level of attendees.
In October 2016, HBF Park was the venue for Perth’s first ever rugby league test match. The Australian Kangaroos took on New Zealand Kiwis. The Kangaroos won 26-6. It was a momentous occasion not just for the sport of rugby league, but for the city of Perth as well. For the first time, rugby league fans in Western Australia were able to witness a top-level international match right in their own backyard. And they certainly didn’t disappoint, with a great turnout and plenty of noise throughout the game. The result went the way of the home team, and there’s no doubt that rugby league is now well and truly on the map in Perth.
HBF Park was also one of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup venues. Two games were played there on the 12th of November, between England & France, and Wales & Ireland. England and Ireland were the winners of their respective matches.
