SUNSHINE STADIUM NRL 2024
About
Sunshine Coast Stadium, nestled in Kawana Waters, Queensland, serves as a vibrant multi-sport venue within a bustling sporting precinct boasting seven fields. Over time, it has hosted significant events, including a pre-season A-League match and an NRL game, where the Manly Sea Eagles clashed with the Melbourne Storm, setting an attendance record of 8,119 spectators. The stadium also welcomed a Cold Chisel concert in 2011, drawing 15,000 attendees.
The Storm moved to the Sunshine Coast midway through June due to the COVID-19 surge in Victoria, preventing them from playing at Melbourne's AAMI Park. In 2021, amid state lockdowns, the Storm, Panthers, Sea Eagles, Knights, and Roosters also moved their home matches to this stadium, allowing the season to proceed in Queensland.
The Sunshine Coast Stadium hosted a total of seven matches in 2021, including its inaugural NRL finals match on September 10 when Melbourne faced Manly-Warringah. As part of the Redcliffe Dolphins' successful NRL bid in 2021, they plan to host some of their games at the Sunshine Coast Stadium starting from their NRL debut in 2023.
