About Manuka Oval

Manuka Oval is located in the suburb of Griffith, which is part of Canberra, Australia’s capital city. With a seating capacity of 13,550, the ground plays host to a number of AFL matches over the course of a season.

Manuka Oval was known, for three seasons, as the StarTrack Oval. This occurred from 2013 to 2015, and the ground was only referred to this way when an AFL match was played on it. Nowadays, Manuka Oval is commercially known as UNSW Canberra Oval. The Greater Western Sydney Giants play host when a game crops up here since Manuka Oval is their secondary home ground. This goes for both their men’s and women’s teams, with the latter starting in 2017.

In the past, the North Melbourne Kangaroos used the oval as an occasional home ground from 1998 to 2006. During that period, the Roos hosted eighteen games at Manuka. From 2001 onwards, they played three games there each season, with Brent Harvey distinguishing himself by having played all 18 Roos games on Manuka Oval.

In 2007, 2008, and 2009, the Melbourne Demons played a home game versus the Sydney Swans at Manuka. The Western Bulldogs did the same thing in the same period but extended their run into 2010 and 2011 as well.

When 2012 saw the introduction of the Greater Western Sydney Giants, Manuka Oval became their secondary home ground. Since then, they’ve played three home games in the main fixture and one pre-season battle each year. They racked up their first-ever AFL win versus the Gold Coast Suns in Round 7 of 2012, which happened at Manuka. A match between the Giants and the Richmond Tigers saw the oval hit its attendance record, with 14,974 people turning out. They all got the pleasure of seeing the Giants beat the Tigers by 88 points.

The GWS Giants AFLW team plays a single home-and-away game at Manuka Oval each season. The ground is also home to the Eastlake Demons and the Belconnen Magpies – both members of the North East Australian Football League.
