MARS STADIUM AFL TICKETS 2024

About

Mars Stadium, formerly known as Eureka Stadium, is a sports oval located in Wendouree, Ballarat. The North Ballarat Football Club’s first permanent oval was smack bang in the middle of the Ballarat Showgrounds and was part of the Ballarat Trotting Club’s harness racing track. They used it from 1952 to 1966, but in 1990 it was replaced by a 170x140 metre all-weather oval. This upgrade also saw the addition of The North Ballarat Sports Club, a pavilion built on private land to the north of the oval.

For the twenty-five years from 1990 to 2015, Eureka Stadium was used as an AFL, cricket, and entertainment venue. It also hosted the Ballarat Gift, a yearly athletics carnival. The Ballarat Agricultural and Pastoral Society also held its show-ring events on the ground each year. During this quarter-century period, the North Ballarat Sports Club had plenty of upgrades.

As part of their 2014 State Election Platform, the Labor government promised to convert Eureka into a Tier 2 AFL Stadium. Up until that point, the only AFL games played at Eureka were pre-season. Following the party’s election, funding was committed and development began, with the first in-season game being played in 2017.

Mars Confectionery made its claim on naming rights for the venue in 2017. In that same year, the City of Ballarat and the North Ballarat Sports Club negotiated a council purchase of the land on which the pavilion stood. This meant that the new stadium and the sports club would be managed and developed as a combined entity for the foreseeable future.

What AFL Tickets Can I Buy For Mars Stadium?

Up until 2017, the only AFL games that were played at Eureka Stadium were pre-season games where North Melbourne was the home team. This saw a bit of buzz develop around the ground, which is what drove the State Government to redevelop the stadium as a proper AFL venue. The Western Bulldogs were endorsed to play a minimum of two premiership home games per season from 2017 onwards. North Melbourne lost their Ballarat sponsorship and relocated, in part, to Hobart.

The Doggies played their first AFL Premiership match at Mars Stadium in August 2017 against Port Adelaide. The home team lost by 17 points. The Bulldogs continue to play preseason AFL and AFLW games at the ground. The agreement to play two men’s premiership matches and one AFLW match per season was announced in November 2021 and is up for review come 2024.

Mars Stadium hosted the Round 17 AFL match in 2021 at short notice, due to a COVID outbreak in New South Wales that threatened a GWS Giants versus Gold Coast Suns game that was supposed to be held in Sydney.

This year, you can see the Western Bulldogs play the Adelaide Crows in Round 10 of the Premiership season on the 20th of May and also against the GWS Giants in Round 20
